GRADING POLICY
Grading Percentages
JHS Schoolwide Grading Categories
Academic Classes
Major assessments: 50% (tests, projects, presentations, etc.)
Minor assessments: 50% (classwork, quizzes, homework, warm-up, exit tickets, etc.)
Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Classes
Major assessments: 60% (tests, projects, presentations, etc.)
Minor assessments: 40% (classwork, quizzes, homework, warm-up, exit tickets, etc.)
There are two school-wide grade categories across all disciplines: one major and one minor. In academic courses, major and minor
assessments will each be 50% of the student’s quarter grade. In honors and AP courses, major assessments will be 60% of the
student’s quarter grade and minor assessments will be 40% of the student’s quarter grade.
Grading Scale
A= 90-100
B= 80-89
C= 70-79
D= 60-69
F= 0-59

Progress Reports & Report Cards 2022-2023
Progress reports and report cards will be distributed on the following dates below:
September 29th- Progress Report
last day to submit assignment for Quarter 1- October 26th
November 9th- Quarter 1 Report card
December 5th- Progress Report

Late work policy
All students are expected to complete all assignments in every class. If for some reason a student must turn in an assignment late, then the following late work policy will apply. Scholars will have one week (7 school days) to submit late/makeup work. All late work is subject to point deductions. Please let me know if you have extenuating circumstances. Once grade books have closed, late/makeup work will no longer be accepted, no exceptions.

“Final Exam Exemptions/Attendance Incentive- Exam Exemption (DPS Policy 3410) High school students may be exempt from their non-state required final exams if they meet one of the following conditions: All students shall be permitted and encouraged to take examinations, even if they are eligible for examination exemptions.
A high school student may be exempt from a non-state required final exam for a 90-day course if the student either (1) has an “A” average and no more than three absences or (2) has a “B” average and no more than two absences. For a 180-day course, a high school students may be exempt from a non-state required final exam if the student either (1) has an “A” average and no more than six absences or (2) has a “B” average and no more than four absences. Any absences (lawful or unlawful) count toward the limit for final exam exemption, except those resulting from:
(1) bereavement due to death in the immediate family (immediate family includes, but is not necessarily limited to, grandparents, parents, brothers, and sisters),
(2) documented college interview visits (students must provide proof of attendance in order for this provision to apply to such absence),
(3) medical or dental appointment,
(4) school related and approved activities listed in Policy 4400, Attendance,
(5) religious holidays,
(6) personal illness or injury that makes the student physically unable to attend school with a written note from a parent or guardian,
(7) absences due to documented chronic health problems, or
(8) absences resulting from homelessness, such as those caused by a change of caregivers or nighttime residence.
Students who are exempt from an exam may elect to take the exam. The grade will count only if it improves the student’s overall grade. This final exam exemption does not apply to courses offered through community colleges, universities, or online services.” (quoted from JHS handbook)
